Found by the M15b move builder (2026-11-02).
scripts/pre-push.nika is meant to check what is staged (CLAUDE.md: “on what is staged, not the working tree”). Its version step runs bump.py over the shared checkout instead. So whenever another agent has an uncommitted .nika that changes the self-hosting share, the step reports assets/badges/self-hosted.svg as out of date for every committer, even when their own staged change is clean.
Probe: with any uncommitted tools/*.nika move in the tree that changes scripts/self_hosting.py’s share, stage an unrelated docs file and run nikaia run scripts/pre-push.nika: version is red.

git checkout-index --prefix=<tmp>/ -a or the same temp tree), not against the working tree.tests/compiler or script test that a dirty unstaged .nika does not turn the step red.
