Brief: K3b, the bundle and the comptime run of comptime_run.rs into comptime_bundle.nika (Part #125)

Score: self-hosting lane, bootstrap lane 1 (docs/bootstrap.md). Plan row K3b of docs/selfhosting-plan.md (draft 32 %; prerequisites K3a and BT built, #920 built 8eb22790, #922 steps 1-2 built, step 4 by s922b-metadata-times.md right before this brief). S=2, C~3-5 M (comparable: P5d, the reverted GR b070adb9). Second of the batch; P5c (project.rs) runs after it and calls this brief’s comptime_bundle_write_if_changed.

Cut: crates/nikaia/src/comptime_run.rs:716-1264 Convert: –profile check-free –prefix comptime_bundle_ Shape: schematic host-calls (R295’s host parameter; Command::new(..).args(..).output() to process::run(program, [args]; dir:), as GR did)

Facts: Where things live, Traps already met, Moving Rust into Nikaia, Commands

The driver converts this before you start (.draft.nika, .notes, .rs). Ranges at 3157d5b1; if git log -- crates/nikaia/src/comptime_run.rs shows a later change, re-grep pub(crate) struct Bundle, ^pub(crate) fn unique_beside and cut again.

Pre-flight (s922b): grep -n 'fs::Metadata::modified' crates/nikaia-std/std.contracts must find the entry. If not, stop: Result: blocked, Needs: s922b first.

Facts

To build

  1. comptime_bundle.nika with the host, the structs and the functions above; the Rust forwards and the host impl in comptime_run.rs; lower-std and its fixpoint. Tests: cargo test -p nikaia --test it -- comptime build_time run_fast grammar_at_build_time dsl_grammar (anchored grep -E '^test result:|FAILED|panicked'), nikaia test tests/compiler on the comptime* and run_* tests, --lib comptime_run::. Commit comptime: the bundle and the run move into Nikaia (K3b), Part: #125; plan row K3b updated (built, what stays Rust), self-hosting share in the body. Stop about 15 turns before max_turns, commit what is finished and report partial.

Run 3 (architect, 2026-11-01)

Run 2 (report k3b-comptime-bundle.md.run2.report.md) built the whole move on branch wip/k3b-comptime-bundle-run2 (707d5e53) and stopped on one rustc error, PathBuf: From<EitherText> at lowered/comptime_bundle.rs, fixed by 1a5fdf6d (#1106). Pre-flight: git log --oneline -1 --grep='#1106' finds it on HEAD. Start from run 2: git cherry-pick --no-commit 707d5e53 (the architect checked with git merge-tree at e1a88e49: it applies clean), then git restore --staged crates/nikaia-std/src/tools/comptime_bundle.nika crates/nikaia/src/comptime_run.rs. Re-lower (do not hand-patch the lowered file), build, then run step 1’s tests and commit. What run 2 already decided stands: GR’s own impl Error for CheckWall (grammar_run.nika) is used, so no copy in comptime_bundle.nika; rustc, toolchain, target_libdir stay Rust (run_fast.rs calls rustc); the dead cargo() is gone. P5c (655b51b6) now calls write_if_changed from project_drive’s host: keep the Rust forward’s signature. lowered/emit_core_leaves.rs differs in the tree because of another agent’s uncommitted emit_core_leaves.nika: neither stage nor restore it (it is the #1060 guard’s known exception).

Re-run (architect, 2026-10-31)

The first run (report k3b-comptime-bundle.md.run1.report.md) moved everything and stopped on two lowering defects, now fixed: #1077 (the tools preamble lacked the prelude’s time traits, Duration.in_nanos(), cf98a769) and #1078 (split_once parts through filter_map then a closure’s tuple pattern, 13177b7c; its shape probed by the architect at 0d8deb1f, it runs). Pre-flight: git log --oneline -1 --grep='#1077' and --grep='#1078' both find the fix on HEAD. Start from the first run’s move: git cherry-pick --no-commit 9a1678a8 (branch wip/k3b-comptime-bundle; cherry-pick, never merge: the branch sits on pre-rebase commits and a merge conflicts in docs/; the cherry-pick applies clean on 0d8deb1f), then git restore --staged those two files so scripts/commit.nika stages them. Do not hand-patch lowered/comptime_bundle.rs: re-lower and check that both former rustc errors are gone. Still to build from run 1: the Rust forwards write_if_changed, rustc, toolchain, target_libdir in comptime_run.rs. Correction to Facts: runtime_dependencies returns Vec[(String, String)] (project::runtime_dependencies_for), not String; the host method returns that.
